When cleaning grease marks in the kitchen, first establish the material of the surface. A product suited to the hob may not be suitable for a stainless steel extractor hood, a painted cabinet or a garment. Do not apply cleaning products to a hot surface. After checking the material and the finish, follow the dwell, wipe and rinse steps of the product you have chosen.
Where did the grease land?
The material the grease has touched matters as much as where it is. Glass, metal, paint, wood and textiles all sit together in the same kitchen. A cabinet looking like wood does not mean it is solid wood; nor can you tell the finish of a metallic panel from its shine alone. Find the manufacturer's material and care information first.
We suggest dividing the cleaning area into small sections: the cooking surface, the surrounding panel, the cabinet door and any textiles. Deciding separately for each section prevents a single spray applied over a wide area from carrying over onto a neighbouring material. Once you have chosen a product, check the section listing unsuitable surfaces once more.
Match the product to the surface
| Area | Check before choosing |
|---|---|
| Suitable hob or oven surface | Temperature, finish and the material limits of the product to be used |
| Stainless steel hood or panel | The care the manufacturer recommends for stainless steel; Herbaclean Degreaser is not used |
| Wooden cabinet | Suitability for water and cleaner; the wood's surface treatment |
| Pans and filters | The main material, the coating and the manufacturer's washing method |
| Clothing or a tablecloth | The textile care label and a stain product suited to the textile |
When choosing another cleaner in place of one unsuitable for a surface, check that product's material limits too.
A measured application with the Degreaser
Herbaclean Degreaser is offered for grease residue on hob, oven, extractor hood, frying pan, saucepan and grill surfaces whose care instructions allow it. It is not used on aluminium, painted, stainless steel or hot surfaces. Check the material of your extractor hood before applying; not every hood is suitable for this product.
- Check that the surface is not hot and is made of a material compatible with the product.
- Spray the product directly onto the suitable greasy surface.
- Wait between one and five minutes depending on how heavy the soiling is.
- Clean with the help of a sponge or brush, then rinse.
Gloves are recommended; the product may cause skin irritation. In case of contact with the eyes, wash with plenty of water and seek medical advice if necessary. Store out of reach of children. Rather than extending the time or adding another cleaner, keep to the application window on the packaging.
Treat cabinets, utensils and textiles separately
Wooden cabinet doors
For wood suitable for cleaning with water, Herbaclean Wood Cleaner is an option. The mixture is 100 ml to five litres of water and no rinsing is needed after application. A well-wrung cloth is recommended. On raw or specially finished wood, check suitability separately; this usage recipe is not a promise of a definitive result on heavy grease marks.
Suitable kitchen utensils
Kitchen Power is not used on lacquered or coated surfaces. On a suitable utensil, one litre of boiled water is added to one scoop — that is 30 g of product. After leaving for two to three minutes, it is cleaned with a cloth and rinsed with plenty of water. Do not carry this utensil recipe over to a painted cabinet or an appliance panel; handle the hot water carefully.
Grease splashes on clothing
On clothing or a tablecloth, consider a suitable pre-treatment option such as Stain Remover for textiles. This product is sprayed onto the stain, left for a few minutes and wiped with a cloth or brush suited to the fabric; it can also be used before washing. On delicate fabric, a small-area test and the textile's care instructions matter.
Do the final check after rinsing
With the Degreaser and Kitchen Power, rinsing is part of the recipe. Do not skip this step just because no grease is visible. Complete both the product's and the item's cleaning steps before using a food preparation utensil again. Foam or scent is not a measure of whether the cleaning is finished.
Keep every product in its own packaging with the cap closed. For products that need a mixture, measure the right amount of water and product; do not add a home-made extra to a ready-to-use spray. Do not mix products together while cleaning, and ventilate the space.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Degreaser be used on a stainless steel hood?
No. The product is not used on stainless steel surfaces; choose the care method the manufacturer approves for your hood.
Should I leave the hob warm to get the grease off?
The degreaser described here is not applied to a hot surface. Wait for the appliance to cool before you start cleaning.
Does more product give a faster result?
Do not change the application by increasing the amount or the dwell time on your own initiative. Follow the product's stated steps.
Can kitchen degreaser be used on clothing?
Herbaclean Degreaser is for hard surfaces. Clothing calls for a stain product suited to the fabric and the textile's own care requirements.
